What makes Bio-Fond a mineral foundation?
Bio-Fond Foundation's base is derived from a natural clay, rich with minerals. This clay also lends its color to our foundations giving us a wide range of foundations. This clay is processed, purified and refined leaving behind only the minerals that are good for you, the color to make you feel beautiful and the natural defense from the sun to keep you protected.

Depending on the amount of coverage you want, here is a list of suggestions:
Brush – use a larger, round brush (ie Kabuki) for a light, sheer finish.
Sponge - a high quality sponge will give you a fuller finish and is ideal when also applying a primer or moisturizer; replace or wash sponges often to prevent bacteria.
Fingertips – thoroughly wash your hands before and after. This application will give you the most coverage.
Does Bio-Fond provide sun protection?
Does Bio-Fond provide sun protection?
Yes. Bio-Fond Foundation make-up includes Titanium Dioxide and Iron Oxides. The EPA recognizes that Titanium Dioxide is a translucent ingredient that helps to scatter and deflect harmful UVB rays. Equivalent SPF coverage will vary depending on how much coverage and the color of Bio-Fond that you are using.

Skincare Products
I ordered several skincare products - in what order should I use them?
I ordered several skincare products - in what order should I use them?
The most critical step in skin care is cleansing. We recommend cleansing twice a day before applying products to the skin. Generally speaking, the lighter the product, the earlier in your regimen you want to apply it. For example, a serum would be applied before an oil and a moisturizer following an oil.
During the daytime, follow your preferred products with your Bio-Fond Foundation Makeup. Before bed, cleanse the skin and apply a more moisturizing product to help boost your skin's natural restoration period.
To help you make the most of your skincare routine, we've put together a few examples of application order, below.
Normal-to-Dry and/or Aging Skin Day Time Routine:
- Peau de Fleurs Cleansing Mousse
- Renaissance Age Serum and/or Anti Aging Eye Region Cream
- Skinfood Extra Riche, Prestige Cell, or Renaissance Pro Age
- Once dry and no longer tacky, follow with Hydro Pearls Makeup Primer and Bio-Fond Foundation.

Can I mix products?
Can I mix products?
All GS products are synergistically created, meaning they are meant to work in tandem with one another. While some products can be combined and then applied, others are better used in a specific order, one after another. RAO - Renaissance Active Oil, is a great product to combine with a moisturizer for an intensifying effect. Renaissance Age Serum is a product better applied alone and then followed with a moisturizer.
What does hydrophilic mean?
What does hydrophilic mean?
The literal meaning of hydrophilic is ‘water-loving’. Most Gerda Spillmann products are hydrophilic which allows them to be combined with water and still be effective. Combining one of your moisturizers with a small amount of water will help to nourish your skin but will also allow your product to last longer, since you will be using less. A lot of our products are hydrophilic but not all. You will want to double check with the products that you use; items like the Renaissance Age Serum are not hydrophilic and not meant to be combined with water.
Ethics
Does Gerda Spillmann participate in, or support, animal testing?
Does Gerda Spillmann participate in, or support, animal testing?
No. We have an office full of pet parents and all agree there's nothing beautiful about hurting our furry friends! GS does not currently, nor have we ever, tested our products or individual ingredients on animals. Formulas are carefully designed and crafted by some of the top Swiss cosmetic formulators. We are so sure of the ingredients in our products, we do not feel the need to engage in unethical and dangerous testing.
